OAKLAND — A 33-year-old woman was shot Thursday evening as she was driving in East Oakland, authorities said.
The woman was able to drive herself to a hospital where she was in stable condition recovering from a gunshot wound to the leg, authorities said.
The shooting happened about 5:50 p.m. Thursday in the 1600 block of 13th Avenue and was recorded on a gunshot detection alert system.
Police said the woman was driving northbound on 13th Avenue when a man standing outside began shooting at her, wounding her once.
The shooter fled before police could respond to the scene. Some shell casings were recovered in the area.
Police said based on the initial investigation it appears the woman was the intended target, although a motive has not yet been determined.
