It will be the icing on the cake of Shakira‘s incredible streak of success since her bitter and public breakup with former Barcelona ace Pique.

She will be honoured at the upcoming two-hour special, also known as Mujeres Latinas in la Música, alongside other Latina icons.

The awards promise to celebrate “Latin female artists, executives and creatives who are proactively working for positive change, inclusion and gender parity in the music industry.”

It will exclusively air on Spanish-language TV channel Telemundo on May 7.

Shakira’s latest triumph is sure to sting Pique, as it comes on the back of the scathing diss track she released firing shots at him and his new girlfriend.

The brutal song “Sessions” currently holds the record for the most-streamed Latin track in 24 hours ever in Spotify‘s history.

It earned its stripes on YouTube as the most-viewed Latin track on YouTube in 24 hours with over 63 million views, as well as breaking 14 Guinness World Records.

The Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53 diss track also debuted at number nine on Billboard’s Hot 100 Chart.

It marked the first time a woman had landed in the top 10 of the chart with a Spanish language track.

Billboard believes it is only fitting to recognise the Latina popstar, who has sold more than 95 million records globally, for her contribution to music.

Leila Cobo, Billboard’s chief content officer for Latin Español, said: “Shakira is the ultimate Woman in Music.

“Thanks to her, Latin women all over the world have been empowered to write and perform deeply personal music.

“She created a movement all on her own, and continues to be more relevant than ever today, with grace, a deep tradition of giving back, and enormous talent.

“She is the definition of a Woman in Music.”

Shakira first entered the industry as a teen, and now has 11 studio albums under her belt and multiple Latin Grammys as well.

Ronald Day, president of entertainment and content strategy for Telemundo, also gushed about her musical achievements.

He added: “Shakira has been pivotal in shaping the vibrant and diverse landscape of Latin music and music in general throughout her career.

“Her passion, talent and creativity have broken barriers and empowered generations to embrace our identity through music, and we are incredibly proud to recognize her as Woman of the Year in the industry.”

Pique is sure to be peeved by the glory his former partner is now basking in thanks to the track he provided inspiration for.

Even his close friends, including the likes of Spanish streamer Ibai Llanos, haven’t been able to resist listening to the catchy tune.

Pique previously hit back at Shakira for the string of brutal barbs she made in the song, saying tracks like hers can cause suicides.

The dad moaned about how he and his new girlfriend Clara Chia Marti have been targeted by online trolls while questioning his ex’s sensitivity to mental health.

He told streamer Gerard Romero: “The subject of throwing beef is all very well, it’s fashionable, but we don’t think about the consequences it can have on a mental level for the person they throw it at.

“It works out very great for one person and it’s great, but we don’t think about the other person afterwards.

“What has to happen? Maybe someone commits suicide and we say, ‘Oh, we’ve gone too far?’ I’m very disappointed with what society is.”

Pique then managed to land himself in further hot water by continuing his anti-bullying rant, while strangely bringing up the singer’s roots.

The Spain World Cup winner continued: “My ex-partner is Latin American.

“You don’t know what I’ve ended up receiving on social media from people who are fans of hers. Barbarities.

“It doesn’t bother me, it bothers me zero, because I don’t know them at all, it’s people who don’t have lives.

“What importance do you have to give them?

“Zero importance, because you’re never going to get to know them ever, they’re like robots.”

But his attempt to appear unbothered by opinions on social media created a fresh storm of outrage among Shakira’s supporters.

He was accused of using the term “Latin American” in a derogatory fashion and unnecessarily made a point of referring to where she comes from.

Shakira later shared her own disapproval of the alleged love rat’s apparent put-down and shocking comments in a tweet.

She simply wrote: “Proud of being a Latin American,” followed by emojis of 29 flags which included those of her homeland, Argentina and Brazil.

The music legend has now amped up her offensive – by sharing a mock-up Barbie poster to throw shade at her ex Pique.

Shakira posted an edited poster of the upcoming film which is set to be released in the summer.

She shared a number of other posters referencing her songs as they had the captions: “This Barbie is out of your league” and “This Barbie is ShakiraShakira!”

But one poster was directed at her ex, showing the Hips Don’t Lie star in the blue outfit she wears in the TQG music video.

The photo states at the top: “This Barbie is orgullosa de ser Latinoamericana,” which translates to “This Barbie is proud to be Latin American.”

Shakira has now started a new life in the US following her split with Pique after 11 years together.

She was seen on a house hunt across Miami amid rumours she is looking to spend up to $50million on a mega-mansion family home for her and her two sons.
