The kids are heading back at school for the summer term and the house is finally peaceful again – but with three May bank holidays and a half term coming up, it won’t be for long.
Unfortunately, the Easter holidays saw travel chaos which affected many people trying to get away, with one coach driver describing the scenes at Dover as ‘harrowing’.
But another week off is just around the corner – here are the important dates.
When is the next half term?
Half-term dates in England and Wales are usually the same, but the advice is to check with your local authority (or school, if your child is at a private one). It’s quick and easy to do with your postcode on the government website.
In the summer term, as a general guide, schools in England and Wales will be closed for half term from Monday, May 29 to Friday, June 2.
Monday 29 is the Spring Bank holiday.
They will re-open for the second half of the summer term on Monday, June 5.
In Scotland, there is no summer half term as the term ends much earlier, but schools will be closed for the Spring bank holiday, on May 29.
With regions of the country having different in-service days, it’s best to use your postcode to check on the Scottish government’s website.
Likewise, in Northern Ireland, the summer term ends earlier so there is no half term. Dates are listed on the Northern Ireland government website. May 29 is also a bank holiday in Northern Ireland.
When is the end of term?
In England and Wales, the summer term 2023 is due to end on Friday, July 21.
Scotland, however, finishes much earlier – on Thursday June 29.
Over in Northern Ireland, school’s out for the summer on Friday, June 30.
